The Golconda Fort Walk

Duration: 2-3 hours
All days of the week

What this walk is about: This is a private walking tour of Golconda Fort with a knowledgeable guide.

Golconda was the capital of a thriving kingdom, fueled by diamonds, spices, textiles and agriculture. The fort began as a small mud structure in the 11th century under the Kakatiyas, and expanded to a complex, imposing citadel under the Qutb Shahis in the 16th century. Royals, soldiers, merchants and workers, all lived in the fort. We will walk through the fort, seeing majestically carved gates, imposing watchtowers, ramparts and battlements, apartments and mosques. There are intriguing stories of diamonds and sieges, love and ghosts, belief and power, which make Golconda Fort unique.

Coverage: The walk route includes the Bala Hissar gate, clapping portico, stables, barracks, diamond market, water reservoirs, granary, Ibrahim mosque, palace & courtyard, Taramati mosque, and armoury. With an additional 30 minutes’ climb, you can reach the top level, where there is a temple, and a large hall. There are lovely views of the city from the top.
